ŠKODA and INEKON About to Cooperate

Joint statment by INEKON Group a.s. and ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION s.r.o.

Josef Hušek, Director General of Inekon Group, and Tomáš Krsek, Director General of Škoda Transportation signed an agreement on future collaboration. Officially, the agreement is the end of any existing business law suits raging between both companies since 2002. The goal of these two major Czech tram producers is to win together a giant contract in Canada in the total amount of 12 billion Czech korunas.

"We will cooperate to obtain the contract for Toronto where they plan to renovate the whole fleet. Our chances to succeed in Canada are considerably higher thanks to sharing our production know-how, experience and contacts", said Tomáš Krsek, Director General of Škoda Transportation s.r.o.

"Toronto plans to buy 204 trams in the first phase. In future, an option for the delivery of some 400 more vehicles will be made. The project will be a technical challenge because Toronto has an old railway system with many curvatures with half the radius that is common in Europe. In order to succeed we will have to offer a technical solution that takes into account big temperature differences during the year as well as steep slopes", told Josef Hušek, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Inekon Group, a.s.

ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION s.r.o. is an important Central European producer and supplier of rail vehicles for railway companies and city mass transportation providers. The production program includes electric locomotives and their modernization, low floor trams, metro train sets and their modernization and also important components of rail vehicles and their servicing.

The INEKON Group was established in the year 1990 as a purely private company. The original business activities, especially export of rail vehicles and import of raw materials for chemical industry, soon developed into a commercial and production holding focused on three areas of business activity: rail vehicle and railway tracks, chemical products and waste water treatment, export of investment units.
